Post Production Techniques and Processes (U3: P5)
Leanring Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.
Below is my review of suitability of my front cover and double page spread for the target audience.
Front Cover:
What is good about the front cover is that the colour scheme links to the target audience, the colours of gold, blue and coral pink are exactly what will draw the attention of the target audience as the target is girls aged 12-18.
What is also good about the front cover is the young model, as the target audience would be interested in a new artist around their ages which is between 12-18, the model/artists will draw the attention as well through his presence and how he is represented through the images shown on the cover.
The masthead is something positive about the front cover as the size and colour of the masthead makes it sound out, the colour will be interested in by the target audience since girls like the colour pink and therefore will grab their attention, as well as that the outlining shadow of the masthead helps it stand out more.
Something that could be improved on the front cover is that it seems kind of empty, there is a lot of space on the cover and therefore may affect the target audiences view on the magazine since the magazine may seem vacant.
Another improvement could be made by the image of the model, the image could have been photoshopped of higher quality and been harmonised with the front cover, because of the image it can affect the target audiences interest in the magazine as the image is unconventional and seems out of sort from the front cover.
Another thing that could be improved which links to the first improvement is that the headlines that are on the front cover could be more interesting, as the headlines are very ordinary and similar to other magazines, meaning we need headlines that would give us an USP and will attract the target audience over as intriguing headlines will give us more of a chance of captivating the target audience
Double page spread:
What is good about the double page spread is the links at the bottom, as social media is very important and the magazines target audience will be using social media a lot, having another way to release our magazine is an USP which will be interacting with the target audience.
Another part of the double page spread which I think is good is the image of the model, the model is very natural and relatable to a lot of people including the target audience, the image is by a park which has connotations to a lot of things, this will link to the target audience as parks are a great place to relax and become more positive.
Another good thing about the double page spread is the hashtag, as this is another social media trend and using the hashtag wherever possible will be good to announce the magazine as well as the artist, this links to the target audience as well since the target audience will be using social media a lot and might be able to see the hashtag and start acquiring the magazine.
An improvement for the double page spread would be including a link to a website, this is because having a link to a website gives us a secondary way of marketing the magazine to the target audience and especially with the target audience using technology a lot as well as social media having a link to an online magazine would be a great way to interact with the target audience.
Another improvement would be for the article, the article doesn't seem to answer a whole variety of questions which may disinterest the target audience, this is something that is necessary to change as the questions will need to have answers that interest and intrigue the target audience.
Another improvement could be making better use of the space of the double page spread, it seems like there is a lot of empty space and could easily bore and disinterest our target audience, making sure every page is as full as possible is important especially in making sure the target audience stays engrossed.
